SANDUSKY • During the month of July, New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, at 1920 Eddy Henry Way, will celebrate its 67th anniversary. NORWALK • St. Paul Episcopal Church, at 87 W. Main St., will share a service of morning prayer at 10 a.m. Sunday. This is the seventh Sunday after Pentecost. The church hangings continue to be green for this season representing the growth of the Christian church. The ancient prophecies of Holy Scripture are fulfilled during Pentecost. We are reminded that God's mission in the world continues through the generations until He comes again. We are the "means" and God is the "mover" and the glorious "end" Himself. St. Luke, the Evangelist, is credited with two books of the Bible: his gospel and the Book of Acts. The purpose of Acts is to provide an account of that which Jesus continues to do through his church by means of the Holy Spirit. Luke sought to convert others to the Christian faith by speaking publicly. His writings are a clear description of the promise and plan of Jesus which are waiting for us. "Faith Builders — Building Faith One Block At a Time" will be our theme. VBS is open to all kids who would like to attend, whether a member of our church or not. From our friends at the First Presbyterian Church in Norwalk: "We are returning to Central America from Feb. 18-26, 2023, and we would love to partner with our friends in Huron. We are taking a group to build an elder care facility in the Valley of Peace in Belize. We will also have another group of skilled medical personnel who will be providing care in the area. We have limited space. Please let us know your interest by Aug. 15, 2022." First Presbyterian continues to serve community meals indoors, however, face masks are required to enter. Hope to see you there. GREENWICH • Shiloh Pentecostal Church of God, at 117 Baseline Road West, invites children and families for Vacation Bible School called "Make a Splash for Jesus." The event occurs from 6-8 p.m. on July 25-29. Children ages 4 to 16 are welcome. A light meal will be provided, and water games, crafts and music are planned. The church's back-to-school supplies giveaway is from noon to 3 p.m. on Aug. 6. The event is first come, first served and free snacks will be available. Later in August, the church will host its "End of Summer Bash" for youth ages 12-18 at 6 p.m. on Aug. 27. Free popcorn, cotton candy and a food truck will be available. In Job 1:8-12, Satan is given the limits from God concerning the testing of Job and Satan is obedient. James 2:19 says, the devils also believe and tremble. Do we? In Matthew 25:41, If God is throwing Satan and his angels into the lake of fire, are we really going to heaven? Instead of obedience and belief, we give God excuses. We need help and we need it badly. The Church At Huron County under Gerusalem Order, at 30 Orchard St., has its worship service at 11 a.m. Sundays and Bible study at 7 p.m. Mondays. The Churches Under Gerusalem Order consist of every temple (individual) of God who is a part of His Spiritual Kingdom. These individuals' hunger and thirst after righteousness and do not desire the traditions of man. But they desire every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the living God, being led by the Holy Ghost in faith, which reveals God's nature to us and in us. WILLARD • Steuben Congregational United Church of Christ, at 1307 Steuben Square, will celebrate 200 years of worship and service in July. On July 3, 1822, the church was founded by Revs. Alvin Coe and Lot B. Sullivan, who were missionaries from Connecticut. This month, the church will have special services at 10 a.m. The celebratory services will take place each Sunday in July and conclude on Sunday, July 31. On July 31, the church will have a picnic in the park for the Steuben community. Each week in July, special events will take place. There will be special music, an old hymn sing and a presentation of old books. A time capsule from 1997 will be opened, and a new time capsule will be filled to be opened in 2047. The church is located in the square in Steuben, at the corner of Ohio 162 and Peru Center Road. The red brick church sits in the northwest corner of the square. The church will open its newly renovated fellowship hall and showcase the history wall. Pastor Ron Jesse will lead services each week, and the church's history will be read each week by the church historian. All services are open to the public. VERMILION • The Vermilion Sit and Stitch quilt guild will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, July 25 in the fellowship hall of Trinity Lutheran Church, 3747 Liberty Ave. We are "celebrating" Christmas in July with a drawing for Christmas quilt blocks made by the members. There will also be time for show and tell and the exchange of birthday blocks. Membership renewals will come due at the August meeting and at that time, new members can also be accepted. PORT CLINTON • Trinity United Methodist Church, at 135 Adams St., has resumed outdoor worship at the Sutton Center in Port Clinton. Services are at 9 a.m. and all are welcome to attend the 63rd year of our "come as you are and worship in your car" service. • The congregation at Peace Lutheran Church invites surrounding communities to join them for hybrid services. The church will host hybrid services while the weather permits it to do so. People can choose to be either in the large parking lot outdoors in a car or lawn chair, weather permitting. LAKESIDE After two years' postponement, Lakeside United Methodist Church is once again opening our doors — and Lakeside gates — to everyone in this area for our Vacation Bible School. This year, VBS runs from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 31 through Thursday, Aug. 4. To wrap up the week, family members and friends are invited to the church sanctuary at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4 for a "Celebration Finale." The VBS theme is "Rocky Railway — Jesus' Power Pulls Us Through." Children five years old and older are welcome. VBS activities will include "Sing and Play Express," where kids become members of a crew and celebrate through song and worship the reality of God's love. Each day, they will experience a one-of-a-kind Bible story during Bible Adventures. At Imagination Station, they will participate in hands-on activities that reinforce the daily Bible Point. Kids will collect "Bible Memory Buddies" to remind them of God's word. Everyone will learn to look for evidence of God all around them through "God Sightings." In "KidVid Cinema," they'll meet real kids who have experienced theincredible goodness of God. Refreshments will be served each evening. Complimentary daily Chautauqua passes for VBS will be available at the Fifth Street gate. These passes include admittance for children, adults and an auto pass, valid each day of VBS from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Passes do not include admission to Hoover Auditorium shows or to the Gridley Aquatic and Wellness Campus. Gate attendants will assist with directions to the church and parking, as well as provide suggestions for Lakeside activities for adults who choose to stay on the Lakeside grounds while children participate in VBS. MARBLEHEAD • Step inside St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church this month to view the Byzantine Icons to help us celebrate the 125th anniversary of the church's founding (1897-2022). The Icons, also known as "Windows into Heaven," tell us the story of Jesus' life and those around Him, as well as the Saints who followed His teachings. The tour will begin at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 24 in the church, which is located next to the Marblehead Lighthouse. Please join us to catch a glimpse of heaven on Earth! All are welcome; the tour is free, but donations accepted. Kay's book will be available for purchase for $10. Tour leader Kay Zekany authored a book on these Icons in 2015 to honor her late father, Andy Zekany, who helped to build the onion-domed church and its popular waterfront hall. She is a college professor at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana and a summer resident of Port Clinton. She is also a faithful member of St. Mary Church. • Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, at 114 E. Main St. (Ohio 163), will host the 65th annual Halupki Festival on Sunday, Aug. 21. The Halupki Festival is a celebration of Carpatho-Russian foods and culture, and admission to the festival is free. The day's activities begin with worship at Divine Liturgy in the beautiful, historic church at 9:30 a.m. The choir of SS.Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Lorain will sing at Liturgy. All are welcome to join us in worship. The festival begins at 11:30 a.m. with the serving of their Carpatho-Russian dinner of two halupki, two perohi, kolbasi, and baklava for dessert. At 2 p.m., the Eastern European ala carte will open featuring halupki (cabbage rolls), perohi(pierogies), halushki (cabbage and noodles), kolbasi (smoked sausage), spanakopita (spinach pie) and much more. Delicious Old World-style baked goods, including nut and poppy seed rolls (kolach, or koh-LAHCH), as well as baklava, will be sold. Live entertainment gets underway at noon with polka music with the Frank Moravcik Band of Cleveland and theEd Klimczak Band of Lorain alternating every hour throughout the afternoon. Dancers will love our wooden dance floor. Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, the oldest Orthodox church in Ohio and a historic landmark, will be open with tours for visitors. Orthodox religious items will be for sale. A demonstration of the Rusyn art of Pysanky (pih-SAHN-key), or Easter egg decorating, will be given by local artist Helen Jean Cooley. Herman Halupki's Craft Fest, with 35 + vendors, will be on the lawn during the Festival. Fun for the kids includes a bounce, a rock wall for climbing and Silly Tilly the Clown doing face painting and making balloons. Refreshments and raffles complete the offerings. There is ample free parking within easy walking distance, and a shuttle bus will run between parking areas and the festival grounds.
