BGSU Firelands names College Credit Plus winners

HURON TWP. — BGSU Firelands recently recognized 10 local College Credit Plus students as the regional campus' first students of the year. Ohio's College Credit Plus program allows high school students to take classes that can count toward their future college degrees that satisfy both high school and college requirements. Students may take classes during the summer, fall and spring semesters. "The College Credit Plus program offers high school students an opportunity to get a head start on college," said Sophia Jackson, assistant director of pre-college programs at BGSU Firelands. "These students showed remarkable dedication to their studies and stood out as good examples for others." The 10 winners chosen for this inaugural honor were selected based on enrollment and course credit, including junior or senior class standing at a BGSU Firelands-area high school, and the successful completion of at least 12 credit hours. Students also had to submit an essay on how participation in the College Credit Plus program has impacted them. This year's winners are: • Melana Appeman, Monroeville High School • Anisha Chopra, Sandusky High School • Kendall Dick, Bellevue High School • Jackson Dinsmore, St. Mary Central Catholic High School • Brooke Meade, Norwalk High School • Miah Miller, Margaretta High School • Kaden Staley, Huron High School • Madalyn Thayer, Perkins High School • Hannah Ried, Edison High School/EHOVE Career Center • Joslyn White, Western Reserve High School In addition to getting a certificate recognizing their accomplishments, each winner received a $250 BGSU book scholarship for use upon enrollment at the Huron Township or Bowling Green campus as an undergraduate student.
