Legion district tourney on deck

Sandusky American Legion Post 83 will hope to reverse its regular-season trends when district tournament play gets underway this week. First, the local squad will have to wait to see who it plays. In the three-team district, Post 83 (1-15) received a bye for the double-elimination bracket by simply drawing the correct card in a seeding meeting. The opening game of the tournament is Wednesday between Tiffin Post 169 (20-4) and Wayne County Post 68. They play at 5:30 p.m. at Tiffin University. Tiffin Post features a team made up almost entirely of Sandusky Bay Conference players, including some from Bellevue, Margaretta and Clyde. The winner of that matchup takes on Post 83 at 5:30 p.m. Thursday back at Tiffin U. That winner advances to Saturday's final at Tiffin, while the loser takes on the loser of the opener on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Heidelberg. Post 83 hasn't played since June 29. The Sandusky squad lost to Tiffin on June 28 and then the next night to Wayne County. Post 83 includes players from Sandusky, Perkins, Margaretta, Huron, Clyde and Fremont Ross. A year ago, Post 83 fell in its district tournament opener 3-1 to Cowle Post 151, which is based in Conneaut. Cowle was only a part of last season's bracket because its own area couldn't stage a tournament. The winner of the district tournament advances to Ohio's state Legion tournament, which takes place the week of July 24. Regional and national tournaments follow.
