HURON — The Huron Public Library is kicking off July right with plenty of programs for kids, adults and teens. Patrons should also note that summer reading is ongoing until July 22. Please note that the library is closed on July 4. For more programming, library patrons can find out more or register for a program by going to huronlibrary.org or calling 419-433-5009 Recurring events • Family Storytime: Enjoy songs, stories and more at 6:30 p.m. on July 5 and 12. • Storytime Lite: Listen to stories in one of two sessions with Miss Melissa on July 6 and 13. The first is at 10 a.m. and the second is at 11 a.m. • Preschool Storytime: These themed storytime feature stories, songs and activities at 1:30 p.m. or 3 p.m. on June 6 and 13. Themes are STEAM on July 6 and pirates on July 13. • Treasure! Ocean-themed crafternoons: Adults can make an ocean-themed craft from 2-4 p.m. on July 6 and 13. • Huron Historical Society: The historical society is open from 3-5 p.m.Chess with Paul Sherwood: Practice your chess skills or learn the game at 6 p.m. on July 12 and at 1 p.m. on July 24. • Euchre Night: Enjoy a game of euchre on July 13 or 27 at 7 p.m. • Huron Garden Club Flower Show: Check out the different plants around the library from noon to 5 p.m. on July 22 and from 9:30 a.m. to noon on July 23. July 5 • Life on the Lake with Erie MetroParks: This program is for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade. The program has two sessions, one at 11:30 a.m. and another at 1:30 p.m. July 7 • Scents of the Tropic - Candle Class: Make a candle at 4 p.m. Registration is required, and it's for kids in grades seven through 12. July 11 • Socrates Cafe: Engage in a philosophical discussion with other community members at 7 p.m. July 12 • Pirates! Ye' Treasure We'd Be Finding: This program is for kids in kindergarten through second grade. Registration is required to attend the 11:30 a.m. or the 1:20 p.m. session. • Pirate Escape Room: In celebration of summer reading, try to get out of a pirate-themed escape room at 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Registration is required. • Lost and Found in Alaska with Joel Rudinger: See Joel Rudinger talk about his new book at 7 p.m. July 14 • Estuarine Research at Old Woman Creek: Learn more about what's going on with research and initiatives at Old Woman Creek at 7 p.m. Registration is required. July 18 • Mystery Book Group: This monthly group of readers convenes once a month to read mystery books. This month's read is "Falling in Love" by Donna Leon, and the group meets at 7 p.m. July 19 • STEAM Team: Kids in kindergarten through sixth grade can enjoy STEAM-based activities at 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Registration is required to attend. July 20 • Real Reads Nonfiction Book Club: Read and enjoy a nonfiction book with this monthly book club. This month's read is "Why Don't Fish Exist" by Lulu Miller and the group meets at 3 p.m. • CLEVNET Catalog Basics: Learn how to use your library account at home at 6 p.m. Registration is required. July 21 • Teen Cooking Challenge: Pick up the ingredients to make a treat during open hours. Registration is required to attend. • The Book Exchange Book Group: This group reads and discusses popular books. This month's group meets at 7 p.m. and will be discussing "Project Hail Mary" by Andy Weir. July 24 • Meet and Greet with the New Director: Meet Huron's New Library Director Jennifer Buch with provided refreshments at 2 p.m. • Live Music with the Friends: Enjoy a set by Lake Erie Winds at 3 p.m. July 29 • Firelands Free Health Screenings: Firelands will be at the library from 10 a.m. to noon to offer free screenings and information about blood pressure and breast health.
