The 411 on 7-Eleven acquiring Speedway

PERKINS TWP. — When walking into an area convenience store chain, people might do a double-take, thinking they're actually at a rival competitor. But that's not the case at all. In fact, they're now one and the same. At area Speedway locations — namely the two Sandusky-area stores on West Perkins Avenue near Sandusky High School and on Milan Road (U.S. 250) by Ohio 2; and in Vermilion — people should notice some aftereffects of a past buyout. Among the recent changes occurring at these Speedways: Customers can purchase Big Gulp drinks, Slurpees and other 7-Eleven-branded products. Speedway's branding, however, can still be seen both inside and outside these stores. This would include its signs flashing gas prices. Back in 2021, 7-Eleven completed its acquisition of Speedway. This means these local Speedway stores and 3,800 others nationwide will soon fully operate under 7-Eleven's branding. "The acquisition brings 7‑Eleven's total North American portfolio to approximately 14,000 stores," according to Supermarket News. "We are very excited to welcome Speedway into the 7‑Eleven family," said Joe DePinto, president and CEO of Irving, Texas-based 7‑Eleven. "Speedway is a great brand and a strong strategic fit for our business that significantly diversifies our presence throughout the North American market, particularly in the Midwest and on the East Coast. Together, we have the opportunity to redefine and enhance the customer convenience experience nationwide. This is a groundbreaking moment in our company's proud history."
