Local author offers advice to graduates

HURON — A Huron author is helping recent grads learn what they need to know to be successful after the COVID-19 pandemic made internships desolate for the last two years. Among graduating with a degree in environmental health, working with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for 10 years and starting her own consulting firm, Tammy Endlish, a 1992 Bowling Green State University graduate, can now add author to her list of accomplishments. In 2012, Endlish began to mentor new environmental compliance personnel — through her consulting business, Endlish Environmental & Energy — at her client's facilities, but the need became greater than her availability. Ten years later, she wrote her first book, Navigating Environmental Compliance, which is available on Amazon. Navigating Environmental Compliance provides guidance for new environmental compliance professionals on how to get started, take over or develop a program for an industrial manufacturing facility. It also helps the reader to determine the next steps toward achieving and documenting compliance. "I wrote the book to give current college students, recent graduates and those who are new to this career the information needed to build confidence and to be successful in an environmental compliance role," Endlish said. "I know how tough and daunting this field can be, so I wanted to give those prospective employees a 'hand up' to help them succeed." Now she is working on a follow-up book, Exploring Environmental Compliance Careers, which provides an insider's perspective into this dynamic field. Endlish provides information on the types of positions, how to make sense of job postings and how to make stand-out resumes. The book also contains example interview questions and interviews with current environmental compliance professionals at varying stages in their career. Exploring Environmental Compliance Careers will be available on Amazon by July 31. Endlish lives in Huron with Jason, her husband of 27 years. They have two adult daughters, Stephanie and Emily.
