Sandusky native celebrates 50th Jubilee

SANDUSKY — Sandusky native Sister Laureen Marie Painter will soon celebrate her 50th Jubilee anniversary. A daughter of Sandusky's Sts. Peter and Paul parish, Painter entered the Sylvania Franciscan community through St. Clare Academy in 1965 and made her first profession in 1972. Jubilee celebrations for Painter are planned for Saturday, June 25. She currently ministers at Commons of Providence in Sandusky as a resident visitor and certified end-of-life doula, providing physical, emotional, educational and spiritual support for a person's end-of-life care and their families. Painter taught middle school in Ohio and Louisiana and then religious studies at Lourdes University. She served in the Toledo Diocesan Vocations Office, volunteered as an EMT in Swanton and was the co-director of the Sylvania Franciscan Associate program before obtaining a master's degree in health administration in 1991. While in health care administration for 26 years, Painter was the vice president of emergency services and women and children's services in Shreveport, Louisiana; chief executive officer for CHRISTUS Health West Central Louisiana; and vice president of Mission Integration/Ethics/Spiritual Care in Mishawaka, Indiana. Painter is a founding board member of Honoring Choices Indiana – North Central, a group that proactively engages adults in conversations with their loved ones and medical caregivers about their end-of-life experiences.
