Jackyl an Ohio Bike Week staple

SANDUSKY — Year after year, Jackyl returns to the stage for Ohio Bike Week, this year included. The band will perform during Ohio Bike Week's downtown block party on Thursday, June 2, at Jackson Street Pier. The block party is returning for the first time since 2019. Bike Week was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. In 2021, restrictions such as reduced capacity and did not include the block party. Jackyl, formed in 1991, originates from Georgia and plays hard rock, heavy metal and Southern rock. Band members include Jesse James Dupree, vocals and guitar, Jeff Worley on guitar, Chris Worley on percussion and Roman Glick on bass. Lead singer Dupree said the Ohio Bike Week feels like a reunion for the band. "It's something we look forward to every year. I've lost count of how many years we've performed, maybe seven or eight," Dupree said. "Sandusky is such a cool town. There's a great connection between the band and Ohio." Through their shows, Jackyl has made a point to give back when they can. In the past, they've done motorcycle rides for charity. Dupree said the band has raised funds for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Unmet Needs program. Over the last 18 months, Dupree said, the band has helped to raise over $180,000 for the program. The Unmet Needs program provides grants and referrals to other organizations for active duty service members, veterans and their immediate families to assist with basic life needs. "We do a lot of bike-related events. It's where you find people that work hard and honestly for a living and that's where you'll find Jackyl playing," Dupree said. "When they want to let loose, we'll give them a rock 'n roll show." Dupree also partners with Harley Davidson Motor Company for various campaigns. Dupree said Harley provides him with five motorcycles to give away during charity events. "I feel like Santa Claus being able to give away a bike," he said. "We do a lot of charity campaigns. It's fun to get out and ride and raise money over the years." Dupree said the people who attend Ohio Bike Week have embraced Jackyl. "People come from all over the country for Ohio Bike Week. It's a pilgrimage," he said. "People who ride Harleys are some of the most charitable people out there and will give you the shirt off their back." Dupree said he and the band are looking forward to seeing everyone during Bike Week. "It's a great time of year, the weather is great. We'll be up on stage and have a big family reunion," he said. "We appreciate it and want everyone to be a part of it." Dupree said Jackyl will be releasing a new single "Get All Up In It," the day after their show, June 3, on all streaming services. "When we're playing, we always jump at the chance to help where we can, with local charities or national," Dupree said. "It's special when you meet the people who have benefited from these efforts. It tugs on your heartstrings."
