Rape in CP dorm reported

SANDUSKY — A Toledo news station that exposed a series of sexual assaults inside the dormitories where Cedar Point employees live is reporting another alleged assault, this one from 28 years ago. A woman the news team called Annie said she came forward after seeing the WTOL-TV 11 newscast about 27 alleged sexual assaults that occurred in the Cedar Point dorms over five seasons. "They said, 'were you drinking," and I said, 'everybody drinks,' and they said 'well you're underage. Were you drinking? Because if you were drinking you're going to lose your job and your bonus.'" The woman said for years she believed what happened was her fault and she did not report being raped to police. She quit her job and later realized she was pregnant as a result of the assault. She gave birth to a baby boy and raised the child on her own. She contacted WTOL after seeing news broadcasts of its series about sexual assaults inside the Cedar Point employee housing, according to the news report. The news channel reported that it vetted her account and spoke with a woman who was her roommate when both of them worked for Cedar Point in 1994, and she verified the woman's story. The Register filed a lawsuit in the Ohio Court of Claims against Cedar Point last year seeking to force the park's police department to operate in a manner consistent with professional standards for law enforcement agencies in the state of Ohio. While the park identifies its security force as a police department it claimed the park was not required to make public records available because officers are hired for park security. The Register agreed to drop the lawsuit with the right to refile it, however, anticipating the park and the city of Sandusky — which authorizes police officers who work for Cedar Point — would change the arrangement to correct deficiencies in how crime is reported and tracked inside the park. The city and park officials have already met once and are expected to meet again next month to consider possible changes in how the police department operates.
