Huron man extradited on felonies

Update 2 p.m. Friday The Ohio Department of Commerce's Division of Securities issued a news release on Friday detailing the allegations against Garry N. Savage, Sr. "The indictment alleges that Savage sold investments to Ohio investors in Coast to Coast Chill, Inc., a Nevada corporation owned and operated by Savage," according to the release. "The funds were to be invested by Coast to Coast Chill, Inc., in The Joseph Company International, to build a manufacturing facility in Youngstown, Ohio, for the manufacture of self-chilling beverage cans. The indictment alleges that investors' funds were misappropriated." Original Post SANDUSKY — A Huron man was extradited from Florida to face an 86-count fraud indictment. Garry N. Savage, Sr., 78, of Naples, Florida, was arraigned in Erie County Common Pleas Court on Monday. He pleaded not guilty to 75 counts of unlawful securities practices, four counts of theft from a protected class, four counts of aggravated theft and three counts of grand theft. All of the charges are felonies. He is being held in Erie County Jail on a bond of just under $2.4 million. The charges cover alleged illegal conduct by Savage from July 2016 through February 2019. Court records indicate the charges relate to Savage allegedly making "false representations" dealing with securities trading. "Mr. Savage provided $10,000,000 to the historically successful Joseph Company International, Inc., which has failed to complete the project and failed to produce any return on investment to Mr. Savage's investors," according to Savage's attorney, Kenneth R. Bailey. "We sympathize with (investors') frustrations, but this is a civil matter, at best." Of the 75 counts of unlawful securities practices, 14 are first-degree felonies, 39 are second-degree felonies and 22 are third-degree felonies. The degree of felony for unlawful securities practices depends on the monetary value of the transaction. The third-degree counts involve a value of $7,500-$37,500. The second-degree counts involve a value of $37,500 to $150,000. The first-degree counts involve a value of $150,000 and more. The grand theft, aggravated theft and theft from a protected class charges name eight victims. The case is being prosecuted by Daniel Kasaris, an assistant Ohio Attorney General. Savage's next court date is a pretrial on Monday, June 6.
