Joseph "Bruce" Hurley

BERLIN HEIGHTS — Joseph "Bruce" Hurley, 75, of North Royalton, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 14, 2022. Devoted husband for 46 years to Susanne (Gauman); loving father to Erin (Jamie) and Allison (Daniel); beloved grandfather to Jaiden and Neiko; and dear brother to Blake and Ann (Greg). He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Joerdis (Griffin) Hurley. Bruce grew up in Berlin Heights and received many accolades for his athletic prowess in track, football and basketball. He continued athletics at Ashland College. Bruce carried his love of sports to Columbia High where he taught English and coached men's varsity basketball, being named"Coach of the Year in 1971 and 1972. His teaching career continued for 25 more years at North Royalton High where he coached women's varsity basketball from 1984 to 2000. His greatest joy was coaching his daughters, his love of basketball and his student-athletes. It was apparent to all who knew him. Retirement was spent in the saddle of his Harley. He and Sue shared many joyful miles. Family and friends will be received from 4-6 p.m., June 3, 2022, at Busch Funeral Home 7501 Ridge Road, Parma.
