Local doctor wins honors

SANDUSKY — Recently retired Firelands Health physician Dr. James Preston has won recognition from a professional organization. On May 1, The Ohio Osteopathic Association recognized Preston as having earned "Life Member Status," which comes with the honor of dedicating their lives to serving patients and the osteopathic profession. Preston was also awarded the Ohio American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians 2021 family physician of the year, which is a major accomplishment. "These distinguished awards truly speak to the character and dedication of Dr. Preston to his work," said Jordan Sternberg, a spokesman for Firelands Health. Preston started at Sandusky Memorial Hospital in 1981 and is certified in family practice and an additional certification in hospice and palliative medicine. He also served as director of medical education for 17 years. Preston plans to spend plenty of time in retirement with his family, which includes a wife, three adult children and eight grandkids.
