Report: Man refused to leave hospital

SANDUSKY — A Fremont man was arrested and jailed for his alleged disruptive behavior at a local hospital on Saturday. "Officers were dispatched to Firelands ER for a disorderly subject that was yelling at staff and refusing to leave," according to a Sandusky police report. Hospital security guards told the officers that the man kicked doors, cursed at staff and threatened security. Officers were told the man was instructed to leave the hospital, but he remained at the emergency room door and yelled at staff members. Security guards told police that the man had been in the emergency room for six hours. Both the guards and the man told officers that the man had been kicked out of a rehabilitation facility in Cleveland. He was then kicked out of the hospital. Cleveland police then arranged transportation for the man from Cleveland to Sandusky, according to the report. The report states that the man was uncooperative, would not speak to staff and refused all medical and mental health treatment while in the emergency room. Due to these factors, he was refused service and asked to leave the premises. At this point, according to the report, the man became irate, yelled at staff and kicked doors. He then allegedly threatened to fight one of the security guards before gathering his belongings and going outside. Once outside, his disruptive behavior continued. Staff told police that the man banged on windows and yelled at staff. Police arrested the man and charged him with disorderly conduct in front of medical staff, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. He was then taken to Erie County Jail. A message left with Cleveland police asking if that department had arranged for the man to be transported to Sandusky had not been returned as of late Sunday evening.
