School notes: Huron, Perkins, Port Clinton, Margaretta, Vermilion

PERKINS TWP. • Three Briar Middle School students placed in multiple levels of the annual Elks Americanism essay contest. Addison Mason, a sixth-grader, and Annaliese Rogers, an eighth-grader, placed first in their grade divisions in the district contest after winning the local contest. Additionally, Isabella West, an eighth-grader, placed second in the district contest after placing in the local contest as well as placing first in all three divisions (local, distinct and state) when she was in sixth and seventh grades. The students each wrote an essay based on the prompt, "What does it mean to love your country?" For their district wins, the students each won a $100 prize. Also, Addison received first place in the statewide fifth/sixth-grade contest, and won an additional $200. • Perkins High School band members recently traveled to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, where they performed and marched in front of the iconic Cinderella's castle in Magic Kingdom. HURON Huron High School recently inducted several students into the school's National Honor Society chapter. CASTALIA On April 6, nine Margaretta High School seniors participated in an Art Walk event at Cold Creek Coffee Company in Castalia, where they had their artwork featured at the coffee shop for guests to view. VERMILION Vermilion High School's team of of Kacy Cox, Justin Zielske and Patrick Anders won their match while appearing on Cleveland Channel 5's Academic Challenge program on April 16. The trio beat Orrville and Jefferson Area high schools with a final score was 545 points. PORT CLINTON Port Clinton High School's top 10 students and those at other Ottawa County high schools recently attended the annual Ottawa County Top Ten banquet with their honored educators, who each student has been influenced by and has decided to honor at the banquet. The Class of 2022's top students who attended from Port Clinton High School and honored educators from Port Clinton Schools were: Kennedy Adkins (Scott Cross); Anthony Aukerman (Lisa Bodi); Carter Blaesing (Becky Fork); Marcella Brenner (Ryan Evarts); Faith Chapman (Rod Miller); Ashton Fisher (Ty Roth); Luke Halsey (Lisa Bodi); Teagan Kelley (Toby Bickel); Arielle Montowski (Joe Miller); and Rebekah Nehls (Seth Benner).
