PREP ROUNDUP: Maleah Clinton launches walk-off home run for Sandusky

SANDUSKY — Sandusky junior Maleah Clinton hit a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Blue Streaks their first SBC Lake softball victory of the season, 11-10 over Norwalk. "She hit it right into the teeth of the wind," Sandusky coach Bob Eis said via phone after the game. "... She drove it. I didn't know if it was gonna be enough." Clinton's home run to dead center field also scored Hailey Bogard, who extended the game with a single when the Blue Streaks (2-11, 1-3 SBC Lake) were facing their last out. "We've been having trouble scoring all season, and I told them, it'll come," Eis said. Alyson Albrycht made a big contribution to Sandusky's earlier scoring with two hits, two walks and three RBI. "She had a very solid game," Eis said. "She's a good senior leader that we have on our team." Kat Newfield-Ekleberry drove in a pair of runs, as well. Norwalk's offense was led by Haley Gockstetter, Morgan Leber and McKenna Ames, each of whom had two hits. "We needed a win bad," Eis said. "Norwalk kept us off balance and they did a nice job, too. HR: (S) Clinton Margaretta 10, Perkins 3 CASTALIA — Margaretta trailed by a run heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before scoring eight times on its way to a 10-3 softball win over Perkins on Tuesday. The Polar Bears tied the game at 3-3 when Lilly Edwards was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and nobody out in the sixth. Margaretta took the lead for good when pinch-runner Lilah Deeks scored on a passed ball. Alayna Pemberton's two-run single broke it open and gave Margaretta an 8-3 lead. Jamie Opfer, Jayla Caponi, Mia Kane and Edwards each had two hits for Margaretta, which improved to 14-3. Addison Obermeyer went 3-for-3 for Perkins, which is coached by former Margaretta coach Scott Dickman. Five of Perkins' eight hits were doubles. Tayler Hawkins had two hits for the Pirates (6-8) in the SBC crossover. Mariah Fields got the pitching win in relief. Fields struck out four and walked one in 3 1/3 innings in the circle. Luke Walton singled with one out and came around to score on an error on a ball put in play by Braylon Collier. Walton and Nathan Majoy each had two hits for the Pirates. Minor, Eli Obringer and Kelton Chapin all hit home runs for the Truckers in what was a home game for Norwalk played at Sandusky due to field conditions. In the process, Bath's time of 14.51 seconds broke his own school record in that event. Wilson rebounded with a win over Bath in the 300 hurdles in a time of 40.35 seconds. Bath won both the high jump (6-0) and the long jump (21-11) at the tri-meet that also included Lake Ridge Academy. The Fliers held off the Sailors in both team scores. Clyde's girls were led by Brenna Caudill, who won the 100 dash and 300 hurdles. Rockets sweep Tigers OAK HARBOR — Oak Harbor's boys and girls track teams both won their dual meet against Huron. Oak Harbor had 13 individual winners, each of whom won one event. For Huron, Conner Schaeffer won the 200 and 400. Kennedy Schlessman won the 800 and 1600. Evan Brown won the long jump and 110 hurdles. Edison defeats PC PORT CLINTON — Edison's boys and girls track teams swept their dual meet at Port Clinton. Grace Anderson won the 800 and 1600 for the Chargers, and Aidan Anderson did the same double on the boys side. Madi Corapi won the girls shot put and discus. For Port Clinton, Gracie Rohrer won the 100 and 200 and Ethan Ranzenberger won both the shot put and discus.
