Sandusky home catches fire

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky home suffered about $400,000 worth of damage in a fire on Monday. A house in the 800 block of Crosstree Lane, off of Cleveland Road (U.S. 6) near Castaway Bay, caught fire Monday afternoon. Sandusky firefighters were called to the neighborhood just after 2 p.m. Sandusky fire Capt. Jason Roesch said the fire was mostly contained to the basement, though a small amount reached the first floor and there was smoke damage reported throughout the entire house. One of the two residents of the home called the fire in, and there were no injuries reported. Sandusky fire Chief Mario D'Amico said the crews made a quick attack on the fire in the basement of the home when they first arrived. Crews remained at the scene for just over two hours. Roesch estimated damages to property and contents at around $400,000. The cause is believed to be electrical, and Roesch said it looked like it was caused by a light fixture. Sandusky fire was assisted by Perkins Township fire on the scene, while Margaretta Township fire covered an emergency call for the crews.
