ALL-DISTRICT GIRLS: Four area girls named first team Northwest District

Four area girls basketball players were named to the Northwest District first team. Vermilion senior Marianna Plas, Margaretta junior Kylie Leibacher, Norwalk junior Brooklyn Davis and St. Paul senior Maddy McCall earned spots on the first team in their respective divisions on Wednesday. The teams are selected by a panel of 10 media members from the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association. Players selected to the first or second team are eligible for All-Ohio honors, which will be released March 21 and March 22. Leibacher, who two weeks ago was named the top player in the SBC Bay Division, surpassed 1,000 career points this season. She averaged 15.7 points, 11.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 4.2 steals this season and led Margaretta to a Division III district championship. Vermilion's Plas, the Most Outstanding Player in the Lake Division, averaged 18.8 points per game and led the Sailors to a 15-9 record. Plas finished her career as the Sailors' all-time leading scorer with 1,312 points. Davis was selected to the first team in Division II after she helped the Truckers to a 14-win season. Davis was the only player in the SBC Lake Division to average a double-double at 13.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. In Division IV, McCall was first team on the heels of being selected as the Player of the Year in the Firelands Conference. She averaged 13.6 points and 9.5 rebounds for the Flyers. Six area players were all-district second team picks. In Division II, Bellevue's Emma Bollinger, Perkins' Kelley Baker, Port Clinton's Da'Cariya Lanier and Oak Harbor's Ryann Steinbrick were on second team. In Division III, Huron's Ava Winnestaffer and Margaretta's Devyne Eisenhauer were second-team picks.
