Overdose death ends in prison for Norwalk man

NORWALK — A Norwalk resident will spend more than four years in prison for his role in a fatal overdose. Washington Street resident Shawn A. Thomas, 45, was sentenced to 54 months in prison on felony drug charges in Huron County Court of Common Pleas on Feb. 24. Thomas pleaded guilty to trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound, trafficking in heroin, aggravated trafficking and attempt to corrupt another with drugs on Feb. 2 His charges stem from a fatal overdose that happened in Huron County on July 1, 2019. According to his indictment, Thomas was arrested on an involuntary manslaughter offense for supplying carfentanil to a 38-year-old Norwalk man who overdosed and died. Thomas is the second person to be sentenced for a fatal drug overdose in Huron County this year. Justin P. Null was sentenced last month to four years in prison on an involuntary manslaughter charge that resulted from another fatal overdose in the county. As a part of his sentence, Thomas must also pay a $5,000 fine. Thomas received 260 days of jail credit for his incarceration at Huron County Jail while awaiting sentencing.
