Drew Carey Comedian, host VITALS Born: May 23, 1958, Cleveland, Ohio Age: 63 years old Lives in: Los Angeles, California • Drew Carey was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in the state. • Carey graduated from James Ford Rhodes High School in 1975 and went on to college at Kent State University. He left the university after three years and was expelled twice for poor academic performance. He then served for six years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve as a field radio operator. • After serving in the U.S. Marines, Carey started stand-up comedy in 1986. He performed in comedy clubs in Cleveland and Los Angeles before competing on the 1988 TV show "Star Search." • He became a recognizable face after performing on "The Tonight Show" in 1991. • In 1994, he wrote his own comedy special, that aired on Showtime and won a CableACE Award for best writing. • In 1997, he wrote an autobiography, "Dirty Jokes and Beer: Stories of the Unrefined." • From 1995-2004 Carey starred in his own show, "The Drew Carey Show." At the same time, Carey was host and producer of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" from 1998 until 2006. • In 2007, Carey was announced as the host for "The Price Is Right," television's longest-running game show. • In 2014, he competed in the 18th season of "Dancing with the Stars." He was eliminated on the sixth week of the competition. • For ten years, Carey hosted a monthly three-hour show on SiriusXM. In 2018, the show became a weekly occurrence "The Friday Night Freak Out." • In February 2020, Carey's ex-fiancée Amie Harwick was murdered. Carey has openly shared how much he loved Harwick, even after their relationship ended in 2018. • Carey has always been a sports lover but a passion for soccer started in 2003 after attending a game. In 2006, he worked as a press photographer for the World Cup. • Carey is an owner of the Seattle Sounders FC soccer team. The team began playing in Major League Soccer in 2009 and won two MLS Cups in 2016 and 2019.
