Register hires new community editor

SANDUSKY — You can come back to Sandusky. Addeo Former Register reporter Brandon Addeo was recently hired as the Register's new community editor. Addeo, 26, previously served as the Register's police and courts reporter between 2017 and 2021. He briefly departed the Register in 2021 for a new position before returning to the newspaper in November. "I'm happy to be back in Sandusky and working with the Register's talented, award-winning staff of reporters," Addeo said. "I know our team well, and I know how in-tune with the community they are. We're a local paper that produces local news; we're the best at that, and we're going to continue to improve and provide the best news coverage for our readers." During his time at the Register, Addeo earned several awards from the Ohio Associated Press, including best investigative reporting, best explanatory journalism and others. Executive editor Matt Westerhold said when the editor's position opened up, he thought Addeo would be a great fit. "When he was a reporter, Brandon started out fast and never lost that pace during the four-plus years he was in that job," Westerhold said. "He's precise, thorough and knows the importance of this work and getting it right." Ron Waite, a group publisher with Ogden Newspapers, the Register and the Norwalk Reflector, said Addeo is a good fit for the future. "Whenever there is an important job open, we look for someone with experience on our staff. Brandon's track record made him the top candidate. We're thrilled we were able to lure him back." Addeo will also be serving as the editor of Sandusky Living magazine, the first edition of which debuted this month. Addeo is a Pennsylvania native and graduated with a bachelor's degree in multiplatform journalism from Pittsburgh's Duquesne University. In his spare time, Addeo is a fan of Pittsburgh sports (though he has no issues with Browns fans), along with television and film. He's currently building a collection of B-movies.
