Sandusky mentioned in new HBO show

SANDUSKY — Over the years, Sandusky has been mentioned in numerous films and television shows. Most notable among them is the Paramount Pictures film "Tommy Boy." The film tells the story of a bumbling young adult (Chris Farley) who must save the family business after the death of his father (Brian Dennehy.) The fictional Callahan Auto Parts manufacturer is located in Sandusky. Sandusky's most recent mention in entertainment media comes from the HBO series "The Gilded Age." The period drama is set in 1880s New York City. Sandusky is mentioned in the first episode, "Never the New." Railroad entrepreneurs George Russell and John Thorburn are discussing the former's plan to build a new Cleveland to Toledo rail line that will shadow Thorburn's own line. Russell states that Sandusky can become an important city with the railroad running through it. Russell goes on to say he wants to control the city and make it his own. Thorburn rudely responds that Sandusky is nothing more than a collection of "tents and shanties." Director Todd Stephens set his Ohio trilogy in Sandusky, which is also his hometown. The first film, "Edge of Seventeen," is a coming-of-age dramedy set in 1984. The second film, "Gypsy 83," follows two goths living in Sandusky. The trilogy's final installment, "Swan Song," which was released last year, sees hairdresser Pat Pitsenbarger break out of a nursing home so he can prepare a deceased former client for his funeral. Sandusky is also mentioned in Adult Swim's "Metalocalypse," Fox West Pictures' "Revenge of the Nerds IV: Nerds in Love," and MGM's "Network," among others.
