Barn catches fire at Chef's Garden

MILAN TWP. — No one was injured after a fire destroyed a beloved barn at the Chef's Garden early Friday morning. Firefighters from Huron, Berlin Heights, Margaretta, Perkins, Groton and Milan townships were on scene for almost four hours Friday, starting at 2:30 a.m., at the farm, located near Huron-Avery and Scheid roads. The barn, which was used for Farmer Jones Farm Market, is considered a total loss, but the cause remains undetermined, Huron fire Capt. Doug Nash said. The Chef's Garden released a statement about the fire: It is with deep regret that we share the news that early this morning, Friday, Jan. 14, we had a fire that completely destroyed the old family barn that housed Farmer Jones Farm Market. We are extremely grateful that there were no injuries. This will not impact our daily operations at The Chef's Garden. And most importantly, we will continue to grow and deliver the fresh vegetables our community has come to love. A heartfelt thank you to all of the local fire departments for your efforts to contain and diminish the fire. The farm is grateful for all of the responders who worked tirelessly to put out the fire. There are so many memories from our old family barn that we will cherish. Buildings and things can be replaced. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this time.
