West Moore Ruggles

NORWALK — West Moore Ruggles, 45, of rural Norwalk passed away unexpectedly Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at his home in Ridgefield Township. He was born May 6, 1976, in Sandusky to Warren and Susan (Moore) Ruggles. West was a 1994 graduate of Monroeville High School where he was valedictorian of his class and was a National Merit Scholar finalist. Throughout his youth, he studied piano, and well as drawing/art. In 1998, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Hillsdale College in Michigan, double majoring in political science and economics, being a von Mises Scholar. He also was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternal organization. He continued his education, earning his law degree at Notre Dame University in Indiana. West worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation during his summer breaks from school, and for a short time after earning his law degree, he worked for the Ohio Attorney General's Office. He currently owned and operated the Ruggles Law Firm in Norwalk in conjunction with his father. He was a member of the Huron County Bar Association and current chairman of the Huron County Public Defender Commission. West most recently attended the Berlin Heights Baptist Church and prior to that the Norwalk Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents, one brother; Dr. Seth (Holly) Ruggles of Norwalk; and two nephews, Sam and Joe Ruggles. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, West R. and Florence Ruggles of Ridgefield Township, and Lewis and Alverna Moore of Fresno, Ohio. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 12 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, 2021, Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe St., Monroeville. Pastor Shaun Cotterill, of Berlin Heights Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Monroeville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hillsdale College Scholarship Fund, 33 E. College St., Hillsdale, Michigan 49242.
