Second threat to Norwalk schools made Sunday

NORWALK — One person is in custody after making a social media threat Sunday night to Norwalk High School.He has been taken into detention, Norwalk police Capt. Jim Fulton said Monday afternoon.It was the second threat to Norwalk schools this past week.Last week a threat was made by a Norwalk Middle School student and was suspended for five days, Fulton said. The threats are unrelated to each other, Fulton noted, and both students have been suspended from each school."People have been talking about a hit list (from last week)," Fulton said. "We have no actual hit list. They have talked about it, but nobody has seen it. Parents removed firearms from their home voluntarily."The high school threat was made at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday on social media in a snapchat story and "we were made aware of it this morning," Fulton said. "The student was arrested and taken to detention."At 10 a.m. Monday, the Norwalk City School District released the following statement from NHS principal Patrick Kania:"This morning, Norwalk Police Department made us aware of a disturbing social media post made by a Norwalk High School student. The student was removed from school immediately and is in their custody. We will continue to work with law enforcement to ensure our student safety."In light of the Oxford, Mich. high school shooting on Nov. 30, Fulton said every threat is taken seriously. Four students were killed and seven people were injured, including a teacher, at the exurb north of Detroit."You have to investigate every avenue of this and make sure we provide for the safety of the kids and everybody at the school," Fulton said. "The school has worked extremely well with us through all of this.""Look at how long we have been dealing with this, going back to Columbine (in 1999). Something that rears its ugly head once in a while."
