Trial date set in Sandusky murder case

SANDUSKY — A trial date has been set in the Erie County Court of Common Pleas for a Sandusky murder case. Shakill O. Fenderson, 27, of Judy Lane, is scheduled to face a jury Jan. 10 on charges of aggravated murder, tampering with evidence and complicity. Fenderson is accused of killing Sandusky resident, Elisha Cannon, 34, on July 10. Cannon was found in his car with fatal gunshot wounds on South Larchmont Drive. Sandusky police arrested Fenderson and 35-year-old Kenton, Ohio, resident Curtis J. Thomas in Seneca County six days after the shooting. Investigators conducted interviews and discovered an abandoned car found near Old Fort that linked the two men to the murder. After "several pieces of evidence" were uncovered in a search warrant, Fenderson and Thomas were taken to Erie County jail. The two men are believed to have known each other, Sandusky police Chief Jared Oliver previously told the Register, adding that police suspect Thomas is the alleged gunman and Fenderson allegedly "helped coordinate and plan the homicide." Thomas is scheduled for a pre-trial on Dec. 14. He's indicted on counts of aggravated murder, tampering with evidence, receiving stolen property, two weapons charges and one count of failure to comply with the order of a police officer.
