'Hate Mail' opens at Harlequins

SANDUSKY — Harlequins Theatre returns to action with a new show beginning Friday. "Hate Mail" is billed as "a perfect date night show about two people who hate each other, then love each other, then hate each other again only to slightly tolerate each other in the end, with lots of laughs in between." It's written by Bill Corbett and Kira Obolensky. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 7:30 p.m. Saturday Dec. 4 and 2 p.m. Sunday Dec. 5, with doors opening 15 minutes before show time. The shows resume at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10 and Dec. 11. Tickets are $15 per person at the door or can be pre-ordered at harlequinstheatre.org. "People are just delighted to be back, able to see live theater again and laugh as a group," said Jennifer Wertz, president of the board. "We do ask people to wear masks." It will be the second live show since the theater resumed live shows this fall, she said. The theater offers this summary of the show: "This is a hilarious comedy that tells the story of Preston, a spoiled rich kid who meets his match in Dahlia, an angst-filled artist. Their worlds collide when Preston sends a complaint letter that gets Dahlia fired from her job, and there's no turning back. The verbal abuse escalates quickly and the characters' words have consequences in their outside lives. It gets wilder and funnier as the audience follows these two through their increasingly crazed correspondence. And, as if that isn't enough, there are two different casts for the show!" Harlequins Coach House Theatre is located at 414 Wayne St. It was founded in 1927 and is billed as Ohio's oldest continuously running community theatre.
