OSU band plays at Kalahri

HURON TWP. — The Ohio State University's marching band performed for more than 1,000 people Friday evening at Kalahari. The concert was presented by the Ohio State Alumni Club of Erie County. The band played halftime songs and fan favorites. They played a medley of the U.S. Armed Forces hymns while veterans of each branch were asked to stand to be recognized. The band first performed in the area 50 years ago in 1971. Friday's performance was the 14th time the band has played here. After performing, the band spent the night here in Erie County before traveling to Ann Arbor, Michigan on Saturday to perform during Ohio State's football game against That Team Up North. More than 25 students from area high schools were invited to play with Ohio State's band. Representing Sandusky High School were Rachel and Sydney Nitschke, and Zai Johnson. The Ohio State Alumni Club of Erie County uses the event as a fundraiser for scholarships for local high school graduates who will attend Ohio State University. Over the 50 years, the club has raised over $100,000 according to concert committee co-chairman Ben Lindsley. Lindsley graduated from Ohio State University after playing in the marching band for five years.
