Make dreams come true at Dreamation Creations Apothecary

PORT CLINTON — A new shop is bringing magic back to the area. Dreamation Creations Apothecary, 107 Madison St., Port Clinton, offers all organic soaps and lotions along with 150 herbs and spices. The shop opened on Sept. 1, but owner Dawn Hush started her company in 2016 while living in Colorado. "Due to COVID-19, I came back here, and this space kind of landed in my lap when I decided I wanted to open a shop," Hush said. "It's a perfect spot downtown." A Margaretta High School graduate, Hush suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and was searching for natural remedies. "I found that I could provide organic products for less than the organic price that you typically see," Hush said. "It's affordable for everyone, and that's my goal: to make these organic products affordable for everyone." Dreamation Creation Apothecary is open on Sundays and Mondays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Hush said she hopes to provide products that will help others step away from pharmaceuticals and "find what works for them." After changing her diet, Hush realized she was still using soaps and lotions with chemicals she was trying to avoid. "I had a very bad reaction to pharmaceutical medicine. I changed my diet and it helped, but I noticed I was using chemicals on my skin, which is your biggest organ, and I knew there's got to be a better way," Hush said. "I started with soaps and expanded. Now along with herbal remedies I made with my spices and herbs, I maintain my flare-ups pretty well." Currently, Hush has 150 spices and herbs for sale at the shop, but she plans to expand to 250 by spring. Some of the most popular items she has are lavender, hibiscus, dragon's blood resin and cinnamon. "With these herbs, you can make medical remedies and use them in cooking or tea blends," Hush said. "There are so many options with everything I have. It caters to the common person who wants to take care of themself and those who use the herbs in magical practices." Hush's products read, "Bringing a little 'majick' back into the modern world," reminding people that there are other methods of caring for their well-being. "It doesn't have to be expensive to be quality. I'd rather help people." For her products, Hush uses all certified organic ingredients and only essential oils. "Everything is good for you. It absorbs into the skin. It doesn't sit on top because I don't put waxes in my lotions. They just work," Hush said. "I know everybody says theirs is the best, but I let my products speak for themselves." In the spring, Hush said she hopes to start hosting classes and tea socials. In addition to Hush's products and herbs, Dreamation Creation Apothecary sells products by For Their Future out of Norwalk, Art by Lindsey out of Castalia and Kas Dahlia Designs. "I'm always looking for other artisans," Hush said. People can also learn about the different herbs the shop offers. It publishes an Herb of the Week on social media with the history and uses of the herb.
