ALL-OHIO SOCCER: Four area players named second-team all-state

Four local soccer standouts were bestowed one final honor to conclude the 2021 high school season — All-Ohio. Edison's Walker Cisco, Huron's Conner Schaeffer, Norwalk's Nyah Daniels and Oak Harbor's Hannah Schulte all were named all-state players Monday by the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association. All four Sandusky Bay Conference representatives earned second-team honors in Division II. For the Edison midfielder Cisco, it was one final piece of recognition following a stellar senior season. Cisco led the Chargers to a 10-5-2 record in a box-to-box role, and he was earlier named SBC Bay Division Most Outstanding Performer. Cisco scored nine goals and dished out 16 assists this season. Schaeffer joined Cisco on the Division II All-Ohio second team. Only a junior, Schaeffer was one of just two non-senior defenders named All-Ohio in Division II. Schaeffer led a Tigers back line that allowed 17 goals the entire season while putting together 10 clean sheets. Daniels, the SBC Lake Division Most Outstanding Performer, concluded her Norwalk career with 144 goals, good for fourth-most in state history. She scored 36 goals in her senior season for the Truckers. Daniels put on her Norwalk uniform one more time for an all-star showcase held in the snow in Ashland on Sunday, and naturally, she scored twice. Schulte also tallied 36 goals as a senior, finishing her high school career with 103, second-most in Oak Harbor history. Schulte was previously named Most Outstanding Performer in the SBC Bay Division after leading the Rockets to a three-peat league title. Oak Harbor also won a district championship this season, with the opening goal in that contest scored by Schulte. The Ohio high school soccer season concluded this past weekend at Lower.com Field in Columbus with the playing of six state championship games. The three boys state champions were St. Ignatius (D-I), Cincinnati Wyoming (D-II) and Grandview Heights (D-III). The girls state champs were Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame (D-I), Chagrin Falls (D-II) and Waynesville (D-III). Players of the year were named Monday, as well. On the boys side, the state players of the year were Luciano Pechota (St. Ignatius), Trevor Rorabaugh (Richfield Revere) and Marco Valentic (Kirtland). The girls players of the year were Peyton Kohls (Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame), Emma Flick (Streetsboro) and Erika Zschuppe (Kirtland).
