Keep those bulldozers rolling

Run for your lifeIt's a renowned long-distance competition, and it's coming here next summer. The Ironman Group will host its Ironman 70.3 Ohio triathlon series in Sandusky beginning in 2022. It's a three-year deal, bringing this event to town through 2024. It's the group's only stop in Ohio. Athletes compete in a 1.2-mile swim in Sandusky Bay, a rolling 56-mile bike through scenic Erie County and a 13.1-mile run along the shoreline of Lake Erie, according to a news release. The 70.3-mile race will finish downtown. The Ironman Group is the largest operator of mass participation sports — including bicycling, running and other endurance-related activities — with more than 1 million people annually taking part in its events. It's a good "get" for the city. Continue the fight on blightThe city announced that six abandoned structures — four vacant homes and two garages — will get torn down in the near term, bringing the number razed to more than 250 in the past five years or so. That is a great accomplishment, one we thought at one time we might never see. The commitment the city has made to our neighborhoods, the resolve to get things done, is consistent and wonderful. Keep up the good work. Yost Booing the prosecutionThe same as Ricky would tell his wife, "Lucy, you have some explaining to do," Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost should explain to residents exactly why he's prosecuting a woman for allegedly lying about being raped and why he wants to keep other women who say they've been raped from testifying at her trial. Arguments in court filings made by a special prosecutor who works for Yost are disingenuous. Here's how Yost and his team, in those court documents, describe each of the three women who filed criminal raped complaints: One lied about being raped; one dreamed it up; and the third one wanted it. That's as piggish as we care to imagine it could be, and it makes us fear for all Ohioans. With Yost as the state's attorney general, predators just might have a friend in Columbus. Mr. Attorney General, you have some explaining to do.
