SANDUSKY — A local Notre Dame professor turned reverend died Thursday. Rev. David T. Link died on Oct. 28 Barbara Johnston/University of Notre Dame Father David T. Link, 85, died on Oct. 28. Link and was a Sandusky native, growing up on Monroe Street before his prolific law career, which launched at the University of Notre Dame. A news story from the University of Notre Dame chronicles Link's achievements as a lawyer and clergyman. Link graduated from Notre Dame law school in 1961. He was a chair on the moot court competition and was employed as a Notre Dame lawyer. He served in the U.S. Department of Treasury for five years before working at a Chicago-based firm. In 1970, Link retuned to Notre Dame to teach law. He was promoted five years later and served 24 years as dean of the law school, the longest run among any American law school dean. Link's specialties were international law, humans rights and legal ethics. He was a member on several prestigious academics and law committees. Between 1990 and 1992, he was vice chancellor of Notre Dame Australia. He was the founding dean of the University of St. Thomas College of Law. Link was instrumental in the creation of South Bend's Center for the Homeless. He frequented the Habitat for Humanity. Link entered the seminary after his wife, Barbara, died in 2003, per Barbara's suggestion. He was ordained into the Diocese of Gary, Indiana, in 2008.
