COMPUTER RATINGS: Clyde moves up to No. 2 in Region 14

Clyde vaulted into the No. 2 spot in the Division IV Region 14 computer ratings on the strength of its win last weekend over Sandusky. The Fliers (6-2) moved up two spots and sit behind only Bellevue (7-1) in the region in the ratings released Tuesday by the OHSAA. The Route 20 rivals will meet next week in a regular-season finale in Clyde in a game that could determine the top seed in the region as well as the SBC Lake Division championship. Perkins (6-2) is No. 4 in Region 14 while Port Clinton (7-1) checks in at No. 5. Defending state champion Van Wert is No. 3. Clyde jumped both Van Wert and Port Clinton, which won games against winless opponents last week. Perkins travels to Tiffin Columbian this week. The Tornadoes are No. 7 in Division III Region 10. Huron (No. 14) and Edison (No. 16) are fighting for playoff spots in Region 14. The OHSAA expanded its playoff field from eight to 16 teams per region this year. Huron (5-3) hosts Port Clinton this week in a matchup for first place in the SBC Bay Division. That game also carries plenty of computer points for the winner. A victory would assure the Tigers a spot in the playoffs. Edison (4-4) plays at Vermilion this week before hosting Huron in a high-stakes Week 10 game. In Division V, Oak Harbor is No. 15 in Region 18. The Rockets (4-4) host winless Willard this week before facing rival Port Clinton in Week 10. Playoff hopes are fading for the area's two Division III teams — Sandusky (3-5) and Norwalk (1-7) — which are No. 21 and No. 23, respectively, in Region 10. The Blue Streaks could move into playoff contention with an upset win over either Bellevue this week or Perkins next week. Among Sandusky's losses this season is a one-point setback to Padua Franciscan, which has gone on to build a 7-1 record and is rated No. 3 in Region 10. Norton — the team that defeated the Blue Streaks in a first-round playoff game last year — is 8-0 and No. 1 in Region 10. The Truckers also will be underdogs in their remaining games — at Clyde, home against Columbian — but would pick up big computer points with an upset victory. In Division VII, St. Paul is No. 1 and the only undefeated team in Region 25. The Flyers (7-0) play at Ashland Crestview (8-0) on Saturday for first place in the Firelands Conference. Crestview is No. 2 in Division VI Region 22. Monroeville (3-5) is No. 15 in Region 25. The Eagles finish the regular season at home against Mapleton (2-5) and on the road against St. Paul.
