Kelleys Island man indicted on federal child porn charges

KELLEYS ISLAND — A convicted sex offender and Kelleys Island resident was arrested Monday on federal child porn charges.James Campbell, 47, of West Lakeshore Drive, was indicted by a federal grand jury June 5 on two charges: promoting and distributing obscene or sexually explicit material of minors and possession of child pornography.According to the indictment, between November 2017 and August 2018, Campbell "did advertise, promote, present and distribute or knowingly solicit through the mails" obscene material of a minor "engaged in sexually explicit conduct."Campbell was arrested and booked into the Lucas County Jail Monday, and had an arraignment in Toledo's U.S. District Court the same day, where he entered a not guilty plea, according to court records.The Erie County Sheriff's Office previously arrested Campbell in January after he allegedly failed to register his employment, which is required of him since he's a convicted sex offender. His sex offender status stems from a 2013 conviction in Erie County on five counts of felony pandering obscenity involving a minor, according to court records.
