Raising Cane's comes to town

PERKINS TWP. — Many humans woke up early with the chickens, so to speak, ensuring they could check out and sample food coming from Erie County's newest restaurant. "Raising Cane's opened the doors to its long-awaited, high-capacity restaurant in Sandusky (Thursday) morning at 10 a.m.," company spokeswoman Julia Doyle said. "The morning began before 6 a.m. when dozens began lining up to be first to try the popular chicken fingers and crinkle-cut fries as well as to get their chance at winning 'Free Cane's for a Year.'" Doyle said her company expects this particular location to "be one of the highest-volume (restaurants) in the state." "And, given the warm welcome Sandusky gave Cane's this morning, it looks like that will absolutely be the case," Doyle said. "Having hired over 130 new crew members to work in this restaurant, Cane's is thrilled to officially be up and running and to be a staple in the Sandusky community." Originally set to open in mid-July, the restaurant faced some setbacks before getting to Thursday's grand opening, which likely created more anticipation and excitement, officials attending the ceremony said. Those in attendance included Perkins Township trustees. The company made a $1.5 million investment to establish this space, on Milan Road (U.S. 250) beside Mad-River Harley Davidson. The franchise represents a multimillion-dollar chain restaurant, operating more than 500 locations worldwide. It offers chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast and its signature Cane's sauce.
