Bring a grocery store downtown

As residents of Sandusky, we are witnessing daily the positive changes in the downtown business district. There isn't a month that passes when you don't see the announcement of a new eatery, apartment complex or future housing development in the area. Register file photo This past week, there was the announcement of the delayed opening of the former Cardinal Grocery building on East Washington Street, ("Food hall project delayed until 2022," Sept. 11). This seems all well and good that the building is being preserved into a useful business, but how many more "unique" eating/shopping establishments can Sandusky support? With all these new apartments, not to mention the nearby senior living centers, the tourists to downtown and the many boaters who enjoy the waterfront, the huge need for downtown Sandusky is a real grocery store. We have a wonderful transit system, but it would be so much more convenient if residents of this area do not have to take public transportation or travel to go to the bigger grocery stores we are very fortunate to have. I ask that the city looks into acquiring an investor who would be willing to provide a grocery store similar to the former Cardinal. If you want it to be a bit on the upscale side, look into a Trader Joe's or something of that size where people are able to buy at more reasonable prices with the convenience of shopping close by.
