School notes: Sandusky, Huron, Edison, Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky

SANDUSKY • Sandusky High School dance students were visited by Momentum Dance Center owner and artistic director, Sydney Shephard. She is a dancer, choreographer and dance educator with more than 20 years of dance experience. Shephard is a 2015 Edison High School graduate and received her bachelor of fine arts degree in dance from Columbia College in Chicago in 2019. In her early years, she trained at Broadway Performing Arts Center with Emily Casale, Dana Smialowski and Courtney Bakula in contemporary, ballet, jazz and tap. She trained at the collegiate and professional levels with Paige Cunningham, Darrell Jones, Carrie Hanson, Dardi McGinley-Gallivan and Jimmy Payne in modern, contemporary, ballet, West African, tap, jazz, choreography and Brain-Compatible dance education. Shephard was given her first teaching opportunity at the age of 13. • Sandusky Schools staff members participated in Parent Appreciation Day on Thursday morning. MILAN The Milan Garden Club recently hosted its annual sunflower contest at Edison Elementary. The 2021 grand champion was student Miles Frey, who had a sunflower head measuring 21 inches in diameter. Members of the garden club gave students sunflower seeds to plant and grow during summer break. HURON Huron High School students in the robotics program recently started their project for the 2021-22 school year. SANDUSKY The Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky has chosen Tamie Rippon, a student at EHOVE Adult Career Center, as the recipient for its 2021 non-traditional scholarship. Rippon lives in Norwalk. Rippon is enrolled in the LPN to RN program, which is designed to facilitate the learning needs of the LPN, build on the current skill set and pursue higher education as she transitions to the role of the registered nurse. In addition, the program provides the administrative, technical, clinical and ethical training necessary to advance Rippon's nursing career. To be eligible for the non-traditional scholarship, an applicant must be a non-traditional female student from Erie, Huron, Ottawa or Sandusky counties in Ohio returning to the classroom after some period of time in which her formal education was interrupted. The female student must be enrolled in a 2-4 year undergraduate degree program at a state or federal licensed college/university or vocational school. The minimum age to apply is 23 years old. Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky has served Erie County and surrounding areas for 60 years with Zonta International celebrating 102 years of service.
