Milan man seriously hurt in crash

NORWALK TWP. — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle serious injury crash taking place at about 3:45 p.m. Thursday on Ohio 601 south of Gibbs Road. A report outlines what allegedly occurred: • Louisiana resident Scott C. Swartz Jr., 30, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup southeast on Ohio 601. • Milan resident Zachary A. Lause, 42, was riding a 2005 Honda motorcycle northwest on Ohio 601. • Swartz failed to yield the right of way when turning left and was struck by the motorcycle. • Lause struck the side of the pickup truck and was thrown from the motorcycle. • Swartz, who was wearing his seat belt, didn't suffer any injuries and was cleared at the scene. • Lause, who was wearing a helmet, suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Fisher-Titus Medical Center before being flown to a Cleveland-area hospital. Alcohol and drug use do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
