Fundraisers set up for Soviak

MILAN — Two fundraisers were created for Max Soviak and his loved ones. A GoFundMe fundraiser was established Friday. "His family is going through much turmoil and grief, so we wanted to start this fund in honor of Max and his family, to help with everything financial so they can focus on their family during this time of need," wrote Jason Garza, a friend of the Soviak family, on the fundraiser's page. As of Saturday afternoon, almost $39,000 has been raised within first 24 hours of the fundraiser. To donate, search "Max Soviak Memorial Fund" on the GoFundMe website. The second fundraiser for the Max Soviak Memorial Fund invites anyone to make a deposit at any Civista Bank until Nov. 20. Checks and money orders can be mailed to: Civista Bank, 24 E. Main St., Berlin Heights, Ohio 44814. Any money that was sent via Venmo will be handed directly to the family once it's been deposited. Soviak, 22, a 2017 Edison High School graduate and Navy Corpsman, died in a suicide bombing attack Thursday in Kabul, Afghanistan, while helping to get people evacuated at the airport. In high school, Soviak played football and tennis, wrestled, participated in track and field and was in the Chargers band. He earned a two-year certificate in electrical technology from EHOVE Career Center. Before his military service, Soviak worked as a lifeguard at Castaway Bay and as a maintenance technician for Alarming Concepts in Sandusky and Harland Mechanical in Norwalk.
