Welcome to the new Weekender

Welcome to the new Weekender, a publication of the Norwalk Reflector and the Sandusky Register. If there are two things we know for sure, it's that newspaper people, sometimes, think they know everything, and change is inevitable. If the information age wasn't already humbling enough, with its digital news services and upstart social network sharing, we've taken our hits but remain strong. Our marketing and promotions team is the most experienced with deep roots in our communities. For Erie and Huron counties, and for Ottawa and Sandusky counties, we are the No. 1 news source with an investment in staff and professional training to responsibly report news from every angle without bias or favoritism. Our new partnerships with the newspapers in Findlay, Fostoria, Tiffin and Youngstown also have already benefitted readers with the strongest reporting from across Ohio from the state's largest news team. The new Weekender will have more room, and readers in Huron County will get more game stories than before along with standings, more advertising, more puzzles and color comics, among other upgrades. The front page lead section will benefit from the news teams at the Reflector and the Register coming together to build a more robust news service. The new community section will be one of three sections in each Weekender edition plus the color comics and TV guide section. The new community section every weekend will also have a wide assortment and variety of news, including business, food, lifestyle, faith and health pages — and, occasionally, some surprises. Our weekly TV guide will round out this section of the Weekender and provide daytime and evening listings for every cable news service in the region for the coming week. Register readers will see a change in the comic strip lineup starting Aug. 21. Say hello to "Garfield," "Hi & Lois" and "For Better or Worse," popular family comic strips and longtime features in the Reflector. "Frazz," "Lola" and "Pearls Before Swine," from the Register's lineup are being discontinued.
