James A. Mazur Sr.

DANBURY TWP. — James A. Mazur Sr., 80, of Danbury Township, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky. He was born at home April 2, 1941, in Lakeside, Ohio, the son of Andrew and Ann (Pich) Mazur. Jim graduated from Danbury High School with the class of 1959. He graduated from the University of Toledo and received his law degree from the Cleveland Marshall School of Law (Cleveland State University) in 1968. He practiced law in the state of Ohio for the next 53 years. Jim was a devoted member of Holy Assumption Orthodox Church in Marblehead. He served as an Ottawa County commissioner from January 1977 to December 1984. He was a member of the Ottawa County Board of Elections from March 1986 to February 1989 and was the director of the Ottawa County Board of Elections from March 1989 to February 1998. Jim is survived by his wife, Rita; sons, James A. Mazur, Jr. of Rocky Hill, Connecticut, Richard J. Mazur of Fremont and Kenneth R. (Theresa) Mazur of Port Clinton; grandchildren, Brittany Ann Mazur, Lauren Mazur and Keilynn Mazur; brother, Craig Mazur of Marblehead and sister, Susan Wiseman of Perrysburg. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia A. (Ohm) Mazur; parents; brother, Robert Mazur; brothers-in-law, Tom Wiseman and Eugene Ohm; and sister-in-law, Pat Ohm. Social distancing and masks will be required at the funeral home. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead. A Panikhida prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, 114 E. Main St., Marblehead. Interment will follow in Sackett Cemetery, Danbury Township. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be given to the church.
