A day of reckoning?

With covid cases now beginning to surge again, much attention is focused on the large percentage of un-vaccinated people who are the primary group getting sick and passing the virus to others. Last weekend Robert Howell of Huron sent a letter to the Register pleading for people to get vaccinated, ("Please get vaccinated," Aug. 6). In the Tiffin Advertiser Tribune Ruth Hoepf sent a letter, ("Been through this before," Aug. 7,) in which she asked why are people, even family members, refusing the vaccine. There are different reasons for this resistance, but none as disingenuous as misinformation spread for political purposes. Last weekend, 800 miles away in Alabama, Congressman Jim Jordan's protégé Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene was applauding the "low" vaccination rate in Alabama at a fundraising event. She told the crowd, in so many words, that people should remember their second amendment rights of gun ownership if vaccine promoters knock on their door. This week her twitter account was suspended temporarily for spreading more vaccine misinformation, in which she said that vaccines were failing and masks do not work either. But she is making money for the Trump GOP at these events since making herself a national magnet of controversy, and that is what matters to them. At some point in time in the months ahead, this group of Republican politicians will have a reckoning for their actions during this time of national tragedy. But unfortunately, especially for Ruth Hoepf and others in the Tiffin area, this time is not coming soon enough. The Seneca County Republicans are holding a judicial fundraiser next week and have selected as their "keynote" speaker, Marjorie Taylor Greene. Jim Jordan must be beaming with pride. Dennis A.
