School notes: College Women's Club of Sandusky, First National Bank, Ohio Oil and Gas Energy scholarship recipients, Port Clinton

SANDUSKY Rachel Slisher, a recent Sandusky High School graduate, received a scholarship from the College Women's Club of Sandusky. Rachel plans to attend Ohio State University in the fall. Her photo was accidentally omitted from last week's Schools page. ERIE COUNTY The Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program and The Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Foundation have awarded 36 $1,000 scholarships this year to students pursuing a career in the natural gas and oil industry. The 2021 class is diversely represented by individuals across 17 Ohio counties, 18 institutions of higher education, 15 local school districts and covering 22 different majors. Five students from Erie County who received scholarships were August Berckmueller, Spencer Flick, Alex Kuhl, Nathan Nickles and Haley Ritchey. To qualify, students complete an application process and must be an Ohio resident or plan to attend an accredited Ohio institution of higher education. The $1,000 annual scholarship may be renewed with a total of four years of potential eligibility. BELLEVUE First National Bank in Bellevue chose two 2021 Bellevue High School graduates for its annual top male and female GPA awards. This years recipients are: • Joshua Higgins, who will attend Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, to study musical theater with minors in dance and Spanish. He is currently working as the associate music director for Mercury Theatre Company in Cleveland. Joshua is the son of Dan and Liesl Higgins of Bellevue. • Taylor Baxter, who plans to attend Ohio Northern University to study exercise physiology with a concentration in clinical and rehabilitative sciences. She seeks to obtain her doctor of physical therapy degree. This summer, she is working at The Bellevue Hospital as a nutritional services aide. Taylor is the daughter of Michael and Sharon Baxter of Clyde. PORT CLINTON Students in Bataan Primary's Excel to Great summer academy, a six-week program, worked to improve both their literacy and math skills. They work in small and whole group activities to promote academic skills. Kendra Van Doren, principal and summer staff members Erin Benner, Kathy Miller, Stephanie Kieffer, Christie Miller, Stacie Gillum, Abbey McCoy, Randi Orosco and Britta Luebcke created fun yet effective lessons for the summer academy. Each week, the educators lead the lessons Tuesday through Thursday from 9-11 a.m. for six weeks with bus transportation available.
