Men charged with murder

SANDUSKY — Police arrested two men on Friday in connection to the shooting death of a Sandusky man on July 10. Curtis J. Thomas, 34, of Kenton, south of Findlay, is charged with aggravated murder. Shakill O. Fenderson, 27, no address, is charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated murder. Sandusky police Chief Jared Oliver said authorities believe Thomas was the gunman. "We believe that Fenderson helped to coordinate and plan the homicide," he said. Both men were found along Ohio 18 in Seneca County at about noon Friday, Oliver said. Elisha Cannon, 34, was found alive in his car with gunshot wounds near South Larchmont Drive on the morning of July 10. He later died at a hospital. On Sunday, authorities discovered a vehicle last seen fleeing the scene of the shooting in Old Fort, a community between Fremont and Tiffin in Seneca County. "The detectives worked very hard on this case," said Oliver, noting police conducted several interviews throughout this past week. "It was their investigation that led us to identify Thomas as the person we believe committed the homicide." Oliver said police believe Thomas and Fenderson know each other and have been in the Sandusky area previously. The men were arrested after search warrants netted several pieces of evidence that backed up police suspicions. Thomas and Fenderson are both booked at the Erie County Jail, where, as of late Friday, they remain locked up on a no-bond order.
