Clyde athletic director Ryan Greenslade wins state award

CLYDE -- Ryan Greenslade usually misses the annual awards dinner at the state athletic directors conference because Clyde High School is either competing in the football playoffs or hosting a playoff game. This year, Greenslade might just make the dinner in mid-November after being named an Athletic Administrator of the Year by the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. "I guess this is there way of getting me to go to that dinner," he joked. Greenslade, who has been Clyde's AD since 2009, said he was surprised by the award. He was nominated by Drew Grahl, Margaretta's AD and the vice president of the OIAAA's Northwest District. "I didn't even know Drew nominated me," Greenslade said. "Getting an email saying you won an award was a nice surprise, especially since it's from your peers." Another area honoree at the state banquet will be recently retired Bellevue AD Brian Schubert, who will be inducted into the association's hall of fame. Grahl cited Clyde's willingness to host tournament events as one reason why he nominated Greenslade. Wapakoneta AD Brad Rex also was nominated from the Northwest District. "Ryan does a great job. He brings a lot of very valuable points to our meetings in the SBC and holds a lot of state tournament events," Grahl said. "He's not only active locally but helps out with the big picture as well. He works very hard and is very knowledgable." Greenslade is a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University. He played offensive tackle for the Yellow Jackets' football team. In addition to his AD duties at Clyde, Greenslade is an assistant football coach in charge of the offensive line. His first job out of college was at Bellevue High School. He moved back to his native Clyde as a teacher and coach in 2005. Greenslade is a hands-on administrator and can often be found on a piece of heavy equipment helping out in a variety of ways at Clyde's facilities. The school has hosted football, soccer, baseball and softball playoff games as well as wrestling sectionals. "I think our involvement in the Northwest District helps Clyde get recognition for going above and beyond," Greenslade said. "We've never sat back when trying to get repairs done. They know we're hands-on."
