ServeOhio spruces up playground

SANDUSKY — Organizers described the recent ServeOhio Day in Sandusky as a complete success. A mix of 35 adults and children helped spruce up the playground at the Nehemiah Center/Nehemiah Partners of Sandusky. Volunteers added mulch at the Campbell Street property and installed guideline signs, which help ensure safety for children. To commemorate ServeOhio Day, occurring this past Saturday, the ServeOhio commission provided funding for 10 service projects in nine cities across Ohio. The goal of ServeOhio Day is to promote volunteerism and community service to kids and young adults while school is out for the summer. In the third year of ServeOhio Day, the commission provided about $14,600 in funding across the 10 projects and over 300 volunteers. ServeOhio is the state governor-appointed commission on service and volunteering efforts. This year's ServeOhio Day was supported by the commission's partners, American Electric Power Foundation and AmeriCorps.
