She lost her job.She lost her home.She lost everything she owned."He laughed about it like it was funny," Keyona Bor said, referring to former Sandusky County sheriff's Detective Sean O'Connell, and the multiple interactions they had in 2015 through last year.O'Connell convinced himself Bor was involved in the murder of Heather Bogle, whose body was found in her own car parked outside a Clyde apartment building. The now former detective convinced himself, so much so, he told a Toledo area news reporter she was a "person of interest," and later a suspect, in the Bogle homicide.Keyona Bor was a guest on "Between the Lines Live" on Friday. Watch the interview in the frame below:[toutembed=iexjn7]In that first interview immediately after the murder, they showed her gruesome photos of the crime scene, and questioned her. Bor told O'Connell and the deputies with him she didn't know Heather Bogle and knew nothing about who killed her. The only connection between them she could figure was she lived in the apartment building where Bogle's car and body were found."Why would they choose me out of everybody? Why? Those aparments are so big," she said, explaining that there were dozens and dozens of other renters at the apartment complex.Bogle, HeatherDeputies "raided" her home April 15, she said, tossing her personal belongings everywhere, leaving it strewn through the two-bedroom apartment she shared with her son, then 4, and daughter, who was just eight months old at the time.O'Connell and his deputies executed a second search warrant May 4 at her home, and another one on May 7 at the home of a friend where Bor stayed a few days after the first raid. The second time deputies were at her apartment, they tossed her belongings outside. People came by and just walked away with her personal possessions.Bor never got most of her things back. At one point she dug through a dumpster searching for her kids' clothes, their toys and other things."I'm in the trash can looking for photos of my son, of my daughter," she said, fighting back tears recalling what happened. "I'm thinking, 'how can they do this to someone? Why can they do this?'" Sandusky County Sheriff's detectives received information that the home was possibly the murder scene of Clyde resident Heather Bogle, which prompted the search. Launch a nightmareThere were repeated encounters with O'Connell, and deputies, after that. She was stopped at traffic lights, they came to her workplace and talked to her supervisors and her co-workers. O'Connell told Bor social workers would take her kids from her. "He would come to my job, multiple times. I'd be at the gas station. He would just show up," Bor said. They took a voluntary DNA swab from her, in front of her co-workers. Eventually, she lost her job as a healthcare aide in a nursing facility, she says, because of the suspicion the visits from deputies created. She resents the suspicion of her co-workers, but said she understands why it happened, with all the attention she was getting from O'Connell, at work, and at other places. Her co-workers became distrustful, some even hostile, she said."The detective and deputies went to my job with their guns to collect DNA from me in front of my job. They had a meeting with my job, in front of everyone. I cant say I blame anybody, except (O'Connell and the deputies).It kept getting worse, especially on Facebook an other social media, where public comments and posts were brutal. "They threatened me, my kids, they called me a murderer," Bor said. "I didn't even know Heather Bogle. I had nothing to do with what happened to her. I felt so bad for her family, for what happened, but I wasn't involved." She still struggles with it."I had to protect my kids. They couldn't even go outside it got so bad. I couldn't understand why this was happening, why I was being threatened, or why, exactly, O'Connell did what he did."One motive, however, was clear: O'Connell was angry her son's father was appealing his 2014 criminal conviction on drug charges that O'Connell helped secure. After the first raid at her home in April 2015, deputies left a copy of Julian Kiser's court appeal, carefully laid out on her bed for Bor to find.She doesn't know whether O'Connell did that to send a message to Kiser to back off his appeal, or if he simply hoped to intimidate her. If it was the former, it didn't work, she said. If it was the latter, it did. Bor said she was definitely afraid of O'Connell, of what he'd done to her life and what he threatened to do. Her despair just kept growing.Kiser won his appeal and was freed from prison in November, just two months after O'Connell, also, was out, Bor said.Other probes, same resultsThat's a similar situation concerning the integrity of other investigations by O'Connell, including questions about his conduct during the Bogle investigation. Patrick Dean Baker Sr.'s 2014 conviction on a felony burglary charge was overturned in May 2016, and he was freed from a state prison after an appeals court determined court officials acted improperly sentencing him. Baker contends O'Connell manufactured evidence against him because. The Wood County prosecutor's office is acting as special prosecutor, now on that case, and is looking at Baker's allegation about O'Connell's role in the investigation. In another case, in February vehicular assault charges against Greg Armbruster were dropped just days after the Register wrote about missing evidence in the alleged 2014 road rage incident O'Connell investigated. O'Connell does not make himself available to Register reporters or editors for comment. He contends the Register misreported information about the Bogle investigation and other investigations he's handled, but he does not generally followup those complaints with detail or specifics. At one time he made comments about the Bogle investigation at his personal Facebook page, but he has since closed off his account from public access. The last contact with O'Connell occurred April 13, 2016, when he wrote corporate executives at Sandusky Newspapers Inc. to refute information in a news story that suggested he might no longer be in charge of the Bogle investigation. "I can assure you that this detective has not been removed from the investigation nor has it even been considered," he wrote the executives. But just two months later, in June 2016, the Ohio Attorney General's office took over the investigation, and both O'Connell and Sheriff Kyle Overmyer were out.O'Connell and OvermyerOvermyer — at the time already under investigation concerning allegations made public by O'Connell that the sheriff stole drugs and misappropriated public funds — suspended O'Connell and asked the Lorain County sheriff's office to investigate whether he mishandled the Bogle case.Overmyer was convicted later last year on felony drug charges on evidence the county's six police chiefs provided that show he stole drugs from drop boxes at police stations. Evidence suggested Overmyer had an apparent addiction to opiates while he served as sheriff.Meanwhile, the investigation of O'Connell was referred to the county prosecutor's office in August 2016, the same month Overmyer was indicted on 43 criminal charges. The Lorain County investigator determined O'Connell leaked his entire investigative report of the Bogle homicide investigation to a friend, a county child welfare social worker, and he also leaked the names of confidential informants and targets in ongoing drug investigations, and improperly disclosed financial records from the sheriff's office.O'Connell quit in September rather than face potential termination as a result of the findings, but since then a second investigation — for undisclosed allegations — was launched when interim Sheriff Tim Wiersma asked the Ashland County sheriff's office to investigate O'Connell. The Ashland County sheriff's office has not responded to requests for information about their investigation or its status, and Sandusky County Sheriff Chris Hilton, who took office in January after winning the November election, has been unable to clarify exactly what is being investigated, or the status of the investigations. It's not clear when the O'Connell investigations will be finished, or resolved. The Register made public records requests this month for O'Connell's Bogle investigation — the one he leaked to a friend last year — and the investigation started this year by Sheriff Hilton after he took office. Hilton arrested Daniel Myers on June 1, charging him with aggravated murder, kidnapping and other charges. The sheriff's office and county Prosecutor Tim Braun say evidence collected this year shows Myers killed Bogle. Daniel R. Myers was arrested June 1, 2017, by the Sandusky County sheriff's office and charged with murder. He worked with homicide victim Heather Bogle at the Whirlpool plant. Long sloughBor found out about Myers' arrest on June 2, from newspaper accounts sent to her by friends. She was elated. His arrest cleared her, she thought, no doubt about it. She called Sheriff Hilton and he assured her she was not a suspect. He told her she should never have been called out like she was. Despite being cleared, the next day, she cried all day. "I was angry. I thought about everything. I thought about everything me and my kids went through. I thought about my mom, my parents are older, about what she went through. Everything. I lost like, literally everything. When you work hard. I was 25-year-old single mom of two. I worked hard. Nobody will say that I don't. I work very hard to get everything I have… to make sure my kids are good."The damage O'Connell's suspicion of her had was devastating.She got evicted from the Hickory Street apartment complex after deputies executed the search warrants there, and later the property owner sued her to collect for the damages deputies did. "I had a lawsuit against me for the conditions of my apartment, from them spraying stuff all over my walls checking for blood and tearing stuff up," she said. "I still have a lawsuit against me. I have to pay for the damages police did to my apartment."Deputies never found any evidence, in either search there, or at the third search at her friend's home where she stayed briefly. Bor was forced to stay with friends. Her children stayed with family some times, and she was homeless for a time. "I stayed in a hotel with my kids, spending every dollar I earned just to put a roof over our heads," Bor said. "You work hard for everything for your kids... If I cant take care of my kids what am I here for?""I lost everything. Nobody would believe me. They threatened my kids. The police threatened to take my kids. It's not OK," she said. "It ruined my life." O'Connell's suspiscion is well documented at social media sites and that's never going to go away, Bor fears. "That's going to be there for the rest of my life. The Internet does not go away. Twenty years from now that's what's going to pop up. When my kids grow up and google me, that's what's going to pop up." She said Sheriff Hilton apologized and she's not angry he hasn't publicly exonerated her by denouncing O'Connell's prior investigation because that might cause problems prosecuting Myers. "I would never want to hurt their case. I want to see Myers behind bars as much as everyone else wants to see him behind bars. But that doesn't give me my life back. I know that sounds selfish.
