Local woman saves man's life

HURON — It's a Mother's Day Lisa Wobser will never forget. While out celebrating the joyous occasion last month at Marconi's Italian Restaurant in Huron, and during dinner, Wobser noticed someone choking. "I tried to remain calm and remembered my NOMS annual video training on what to do," said Wobser, a Sandusky-area resident who works at the area health care facility's patient services call center. Wobser quickly jumped up, positioned herself to behind the victim and then began the Heimlich maneuver. "After about 15 seconds of performing the maneuver, the gentleman coughed up the piece of food he had choked on," Wobser said. "I gave him water to make sure he was OK and could swallow. We then joked we should order a beer and some shots (to celebrate)." The man graciously thanked Wobser and even said he'd put her in his will. "We then went on and finished our dinners as if nothing had happened," said Wobser, a mother to three who's married to her husband, Josh. "Desserts soon followed, two to be exact since I was feeling proud." Others also felt pleased with Wobser's actions. She received recognition in her company's monthly newsletter along with a personal "thank you" message from NOMS' CEO and vice president.
