Port Clinton's library opens new branch in Marblehead on June 15

MARBLEHEAD — Ida Rupp Public Library in Port Clinton announced Tuesday that the library's new Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library will open at 2:30 p.m. June 15.The opening of the library system's newest branch at 701 W. Main St. in Marblehead, will be celebrated with an event on July 1. Ida Rupp has a main library building in downtown Port Clinton and also operates a branch at Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island.Everyone who finds it convenient to use the new branch is invited to use it. A library card signup station will be operating on June 15 and also on July 1, although patrons are welcome to obtain a library card any time, said Amber Cupp, community engagement coordinator for the library.The June 15 opening will be preceded by a ribbon cutting. While celebrities are still being lined up for the July 1 gala, Cupp said she can confirm that children's book character Pete the Cat has agreed to show up. Pete will join library officials expected at both events, including director Tim Hagen, assistant director Lauren Lemmon and members of the library board and the friends board.Ida Rupp Public Library is part of a statewide library consortium, allowing patrons to order from a large catalog of books, movies and music, and also offers digital library services such as Hoopla Digital that offer music, books and movies 24 hours a day.Also Tuesday, the library announced that Jennifer Buch will serve as the branch manager. Buch is Ida Rupp's youth services supervisor, so she'll be taking on new duties, Cupp said.
