Update: Fatal crash victims identified

Update 10:30 p.m. The Ohio State Highway Patrol released new details on Friday's crash on Mason Road, which occurred at about 3:45 p.m. between Ohio 13 and Old Mason Road. A GMC Sierra was driving east on Mason Road while a Hyundai Santa Fe traveled west on Mason Road. The GMC failed to negotiate a curve, went into the oncoming lane, struck the Hyundai and overturned, according to a news release from the patrol. The driver of the GMC, 49-year-old Nicholas M. Barylski, of Huron, was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of Hyundai, 36-year-old Veronica J. Stanley, of Norwalk, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Cleveland's MetroHealth Medical Center by medical helicopter. A passenger in the vehicle, 15-year-old Alli J. Kurdinat, of Norwalk, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Stanley and Kurdinat wore seat belts. Troopers have not yet determined if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation. The patrol was assisted at the scene by the Erie County Sheriff's Office, North Central EMS, Milan Township Fire and EMS, MetroHealth-Metro Life Flight and Central Automotive and Radiator. Update 7:50 p.m. Mason Road between River Road and Ohio 13 has reopened, Erie County dispatchers said. Update 5:45 p.m. Two people were killed in the crash and a third person suffered serious injuries, and was transported from the scene by medical helicopter, Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth said. The identities of the three people involved in the crash have not yet been released. Sigsworth said the crash was a head-on collision and that one vehicle caught on fire. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is expected to release additional details tonight. Mason Road between River Road and Ohio 13 remains closed for now. Check back for updates.
