Two injured in fight at Kalahari

HURON TWP. — Two people were arrested after a fight at the Kalahari Resort on Monday during which a woman was slammed to the ground onto her head and instantly knocked unconscious. A video provided by a witness shows the violent attack in which the woman appears charging at a person while throwing her fists. She gets upended, however, and the person she appears to be attacking lifts her up and then tossed her hard to the floor. The Erie County Sheriff's Office did not identify or file charges against the person who threw the woman. The woman, a 23-year-old Flint, Michigan, resident, regained consciousness and was later combative with deputies when they arrived, according to an incident report. She was "hysterical and bleeding from the head," the report states. Nearby, Zackary T. Colzin, 25, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, was found unconscious when the deputy arrived. An EMT on the scene told the deputy he was attempting to help Colzin when Colzin became violent and started punching him. The EMT told the deputy he was forced to tackle Colzin, who hit his head on the ground and went unconscious, the report states. As they talked Colzin regained consciousness and punched the deputy, according to the report. He was eventually subdued, handcuffed and arrested after being stunned with a Taser. It's unknown what started the fight and it's also unknown if the woman and Colzin were together at the resort. Both were taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center and later released to the custody of sheriff's deputies. Colzin is charged with one count of assault involving the EMT and one count of assault involving the deputy, which are both felonies. He's also charged with three misdemeanors, persistent disorderly conduct while intoxicated, resisting arrest and failure to disclose personal information. He's being held without bond as of Tuesday afternoon. The woman was charged with persistent disorderly conduct while intoxicated, aggravated menacing and failure to disclose personal information for allegedly refusing to identify herself, all misdemeanors. The Register typically does not identify people charged with misdemeanors. She was released from the Erie County Jail on a $14,000 bond, jail records state.
